Specific enthalpy is the total energy content of moist air per kilogram of dry air, combining the sensible heat of the air with the latent heat of its water vapor. Engineers use it to size air handlers, calculate cooling and heating loads, and — critically — to compare the energy cost of different humidification methods.
How much a humidifier changes enthalpy depends on the process. Steam adds moisture and heat, spiking enthalpy. Adiabatic humidification like Smart Fog's dry fog adds moisture while absorbing heat, so net enthalpy barely moves.
