Maintaining the correct relative humidity levels for paper and printing application is important for optimum operation and reduction of downtime. The relative humidity levels in a print shop affects the amount of moisture in the paper, as well as the performance of the printing press. Low humidity levels also cause static, web breaks and paper curls.
In the winter, HVAC heating as well as the heat generated from machinery can further remove moisture from already dry air. In fact, midwinter relative humidity levels can be as low as 10%, far below optimal relative humidity levels of 50-60%.
