Maintaining the correct relative humidity levels for paper and printing application is important for optimum operation and reduction of downtime. The relative humidity levels in a print shop affects the amount of moisture in the paper, as well as the performance of the printing press. Low humidity levels also cause static, web breaks and paper curls.
In the winter, HVAC heating as well as the heat generated from machinery can further remove moisture from already dry air. In fact, midwinter relative humidity levels can be as low as 10%, far below optimal relative humidity levels of 50-60%. In the summer, HVAC cooling systems can also reduce humidity well below this target range. Year round, Smart Fog offers a reliable, energy efficient and cost effective humidity solution!
Optimum relative humidity levels in the printing shop contribute to the overall print quality and performance of the printers. Low relative humidity levels can attribute to light or faded, washed our prints and colors not lining up.
Additional issue caused by low relative humidity level is static. When the relative humidity drops below 35%, build up of static is enhanced. Presence of static causes sheets of paper sticking and mis-feeling on machines.
